As part of its social responsibility to the people, a Chinese company, China Geo- Engineering company (CGC Nig Ltd) has donated about N1.2m palliative to the Government of Ebonyi State to help cushion the effects of the pandemic on Ebonyi people.
The company led by their senior business manager Cheng Kangle made the donation on Wednesday to the Covid-19 Palliative committee through the ministry of environment.
A cash sum of N1m, 60 bags of Abakaliki rice and 300 cartons of indomie were presented to the state government.
Correspondent reports that CGCOC is the contractor handling NEWMAP flood intervention site located in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital city.
Their control site are four in number under the contract, including Iyiokwu international market control site, Ebiya river, Eguwgu Agbaja control site, Iyiudele flood control site and Odunukwe Nkaleke hatchery site.
In the presentation, the Senior Business Manager, Cheng Kangle commended the State Government for its efforts to stop Coronavirus spread in the State.
He also applauded the medical workers across the country who are working timelessly to save people from this Pandemic.
He noted that the pandemic has thrown many families into untold hardship hence the reason for the donation.
“We know the pandemic has caused serious negative impact on the economy, especially the peoples’ livelihood. As a company, rooted in Nigeria since 1983, we want to show our feelings to Ebonyi State and we want to perform our social responsibility to assist the government and the people at this difficult time, so we believe with the effort of the government and the health workers, the pandemic will eventually vanish and normal life will return soonest.”

Commissioner for environment, Emmanuel Uguru in his remarks noted that the State Government is fighting the pandemic in many angles and expressed hope that despite the 5 cases of Coronavirus recorded, the state is free.
He explained that the index case was caught at the border and was not allowed to come into the State.
He called on other organizations and companies in the state to join hand in providing stimulus to the people
“People are under different hardship as movement is not as free as it used to be, that is why government is picking name irrespective of their political party to receive the palliative when distribution starts.”
Dr. Philip Uche Echiegu, state project coordinator Nigeria Irrigation and water chain management project on his part, said CGCOC are handling the site under Nigeria Irrigation water chain management project assisted by the World Bank and commended them for the donation.
“CGCOC is here to present to Ebonyi State through the host ministry, ministry of environment the covid -19 palliative, (stimulus) which is part of their contribution towards the control of covid -19 in Ebonyi State.”
