Executive Chairman, Ohaukwu Council Area, Barr Clement Odah on Thursday 7th May, 2020 has given a matching order to the anti-covid-19 squad and the stakeholders in the area to ensure no illegal entrant escape their arrest this time, the isolation centre has been decentralized to the grassroots area as to curtail the spread of deadly disease Coronavirus.
Barr Odah speaking on how to secure borders to avoid more records of covid-19 cases in Ebonyi State while interacting with newsmen at Ohaukwu Council headquarters,135, Ezzamgbo after his meeting with the community leaders and some of the government appointees on Thursday.
The Council Boss maintained that the traditional rulers, town union presidents, village heads, the youth leaders with the government appointees who largely honoured meeting would continue complimenting the efforts of the state Governor, Engr. David Nweze Umahi by fishing out all the returnees to avoid other imported cases in the state.
According to him, the fight against covid-19 is not an elite fight, stressing that it is a practical struggle for the survival of people which needs all hands to be on deck.
He said, “Traditional rulers are the pillars of the society. The village heads, the town union presidents and youth leaders are the key stakeholders in the community levels. Therefore, we gathered all of them today, all the appointees and members of the taskforce to sensitize them, by giving them the mandate, the matching order to move ahead and ensure the full effective implementation of all the guidelines and rules put in place by government. This includes the well known rules of the regular hand-washing with running water, the use of sanitizers, social distancing, and use of facemasks, which are very fundamental and should be implemented.”
“It is very important to ensure we secure our boundaries to avoid illegal entrants. As you can see, the only 8 cases we have in Ebonyi state are all imported cases. We can differentiate between the imported cases and the local ones. These cases are not locally created. Our Governor has been proactive by moving ahead of his colleagues to secure his state and nothing at present was recorded as locally created cases of the pandemic. If other state Governors had emulated Governor Umahi, I assure you Ebonyi state would have been a Coronavirus-Free-State. It is those who have contracted this deadly virus, those who brought it either from Edo, or Lagos State, Ore and so on.”
“We have to call this meeting to ensure that we don’t record any additional case. And how do we do that? It is by spreading our nets wide and catch anybody who is against the rule. We must force him or her to his village, the local government in particular. We have several road-blocks, even in the development centres, communities and villages. As the returnees enter, we harvest them. We have also decentralized the isolation centres.”
“It is because Abakaliki township stadium is already congested. We have nearly 800 persons as at yesterday. The facilities are already congested. Yesterday after the state briefing by our able Governor, he asked every local government area to activate with immediate effect at least three isolation centres and here in Ohaukwu, the zonal arrangement had made it easier. Ezzamgbo will have isolation centre, Ngbo and Effuim one respectively. As you come in, we send you where you belong. You will spend mandatory 14 days through which you will be observed and given a clear bills that certifies the medical treatment for the sake of our lives. We have a well trained medical personnel in charge of all the isolation and latest on Monday and other amenities are equally secured”, he hinted.
Meanwhile, Hon. Obiora Ugboji, the Coordinator of Ohaukwu Development Centre, Chief David Ogboekerigwe, Eze-elect of Ntsurakpa Autonomous Community and Mrs. Cynthia Izekwe- a Liaision Officer among other stakeholders from the area expressed readiness to implement the order by assuring a commitment to fish out whosoever that smuggled himself or herself into their areas for the required medical checkup and treatment if the case arises while staying in the holding centres.
