A yet to be identified assailants on Friday 8 May,2020 shut to death,Mr.Nwode Simeon at Ndiogbu in Igbeagu autonomous community, Izzi Council Area, Ebonyi State.
Narrating the incident, the bereaved wife,Mrs. Patricia Nwode hinted that the unknown gun men invaded the compound around 02:00 a.m. on motorcycle, stating that while she was indoor with her seven months old baby, one of them hanged besides the bike and two others attacked her husband after stealing N100,000 he made from selling his land,shot him to death.
She narrated that the husband, late Nwode sold some portion of his land few hours before the attack.
According to her, the deceased husband after selling the land accepted part payment of one hundred thousand naira and on 8th May, when the buyer paid the remaining money the gun men strucked at night.
He explained that that the deceased husband went into his room with one of his sons while she retired into her own room prior to the attack when she woke up with fear as noise filterded into her apartment.
She revealed that the gunmen after their successful operation demanded her late husband to bring out the remaining money but he raised voice shouting that he knows them, when one of them turned back and shut him and his son also sustain blood wound.
“Last Friday evening being 8th May, 2020, my husband after selling some portion of our land through the help of an agent to Mr. Friday Nwovu, he asked the buyer to pay him N100,000, but the day he supposed to pay the money, he called that he would come on Friday, which he later came on Friday and brought the remaining balance.”
“He paid the remaining amount that evening and we all went to bed on separate apartment, but I was forced to wake up in the midnight when I saw three boys with motorcycle drove to entrance to our compound and one of them stood at the gate while two came and carry the operation.”
“After collecting the money, my husband told them that he knows one of them and he quickly shut at him and zoomed off”, she said
It was gathered that the deceased son, Mr. Nnochie Nwode strictly warned the land buyer not to pay his father the remaining balance until he returned back from Asaba where he base and work as upholstery maker.
We also gathered that he waited until his return back that night when the money was paid.
Contacting the village Head, Chief Ogbonnaya Nko, he described the killing as shocking, pointing out that such incident had never happened in the area as he condemned the ungodly killing of the man.
When the village received the information, they contacted Izzi Division Police DPO, Maigoroson J.J who through the help of his men has deposited the deceased body in Iboko General Hospital Mortuary.
Reacting to the incident, Ebonyi State Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Loveth Odah, explained that the command received the report and had ordered that the case be transferred to the command Headquarters while investigation is ongoing.
She said efforts are on ground to ensure those behind the heinous act are arrested and made to face the law.
“The matter has been reported to us and the CP ordered that the case be transferred to the State Headquarters while the investigation is ongoing.”
“It is very bad that this type of thing happened when the world is battling with the pandemic, and to ensure that those behind the crime are arrested and brought to book, the Commissioner of Police has charged Iboko Police Division to transfer the case while investigation is ongoing to ensure those involved are brought to book.”
