Citizens’ Advocate gathered that the Civil Defence and police personnel jointly raided their various operation bases in Abakaliki and apprehended nine of them, while one reportedly escaped. The raid, according to the source, followed a tip off arising from incessant complaints from members of the public over the proliferation of task forces in the city which reportedly attracted the attention of the State Governor, Engr. David Umahi who issued a matching order to the commissioner in charge to arrest the trend.
One of the suspects, Chinonso Kalu denied his involvement; he told our correspondent that he was picked up in a commercial tricycle (keke) while returning from a patent medicine dealer’s shop where he went to treat a leg injury. According to him, one of the suspects pointed him out as one of them; hence his arrest.
