While children all over the world celebrate their day, the Honourable Speaker, Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has on Wednesday 27th May, 2020 advocated for the rights of children in the society, saying that the welfare of every child should be the pivotal interest of the government in power and as well the parents.
Speaker Nwifuru, whose advocacy campaign was in the reflection of the annual observance of Children’s Day, said, May 27 is a conventional assent established by the United Nations in the year 1964, adding that the agreement is intertwined with an unreserved acceptance by all and sundry as he noted that the welfare of every child is paramount and sacrosanct.
Ebonyi Speaker who alongside children observed the day said, it is 31 years now into the United Nations Convention on the Rights of a Child, the world and its increasingly changing order is reminded today, that Children are special, to be protected, allowed to grow, learn, play, develop, and flourish with dignity; as agreed in the Convention of 1989.
He hinted that in Nigeria and Ebonyi State in particular, it is understood that Children are the future of the society, maintaining that they are born of love, and believed that without them, the hope of building a productive and creative force for tomorrow would be truncated.
According to him,”Under the foresighted leadership of His Excellency, Engr. Chief David Nweze Umahi, Governor of Ebonyi State, the educational, financial, social and spiritual future of our Children is assured.”
“Because we all passed through the Childhood phase, it is simply honourable and very important that we continue to provide unique platforms for their moral instructions, proper home training, fundamental education and welfare. It is as well, very vital to ensure that those systems are sustainable for a greater part of the future.”
“Unfortunately today, we’re greeted by a global novel virus, Covid-19, which has made it difficult for Government to engage our adorable Children in the usual celebrations accompanying the day. But our collective resolve in protecting every Child from the virus in Ebonyi State will never waver.”
He added, “So on behalf of my lovely family, reputable Honourable Members, excellent floor functionaries and indeed all staff of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, I wish all our Children a Happy Children’s Day Celebration. May God continue to lead you all by the hand as you grow, Amen.”
