Flood Sacks Ohatekwe, Ezza North Communities

By Kenny Ali and Solomon Nwoba

Ebyia River at Ohatekwe Agalegu Ishieke behind Mile 4 Hospital in Ebonyi Dev. Centre, Ebonyi Local Government Area overflew its bank on 27th May, 2020 sacking the villagers and residents of the area as well as damaging crops and devastating properties worth millions of naira. As a result many have been rendered homeless as their houses and farmlands have been submerged by Flood.
Available information from the villagers and victims has it that some of the mud block building within the area have collapsed.
The victims of the flood are therefore calling on the National Emergency Management Agency through Ebonyi SEMA to urgently come to their help.
They are also calling on Ebonyi State Government to kindly come and save their souls.

They also appeal to experts in flood management to forestall future occurrences by dredging the waterways of the Ebyia river.

In another development, the movement of people of Ezza North Local Government Area has been disrupted by flood as the Akadoro river which is the linking river that linked over six communities, overflew it’s bank.
It was a very pitiful situation today at Akadoro river; the river linking the people of Ogbooji, Umuezeoka, Nkomoro, some part of Ekka, Inyere, Amuda, Amaewula among other communities overflew it’s bank incapacitating the people of the area from going to either their farm or market which are their only source of livelihood.
The construction of this river was one of the promises made to the people during the 2019 general election, but up till now nothing has been done on that effect; neither bridge nor dredging.
We therefore call on our dear amiable Governor, Engr. David Nweze Umahi, and the stakeholders from the area; Dr Mrs. Norah Oluchi Alo the chairman, Ezza North Local Government Area. Hon. Victor Chukwu the honourable member representing the good people of Ezza North West, Barr Friday Nwuhuo, the member representing the good people of Ezza North East, Chief Moses Nomeh Ogodoali, Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural resources.
Hon Barr Ikechukwu Nwobo, Honourable Commissioner for Special projects, Hon. Rose Nwankwo, Coordinator Imoha Development Center, Hon. Okehpaulinus Akachukwu, Councillor Inyere Ward, Hon Mrs Fidelis Igwe, Councillor Ogbooji Ward, leader Ezza North Legislative Council, Hon. Humphrey Chorobi Humphrey, Councillor Ekka Ward, Chief Patrick Igwe, member III civil service Commissioner among other, to please come to our aide.
We need the river dredged to curtail the issue of flooding which has taken many lives, livestocks and crops, as well as construction of bridge in the area to ensure smooth passage of the people, properties, goods, farm inputs and farm produce for the people of the area.
