A philanthropist, Chief Monday Okeh, the MD Monabliss Hotels and suits, Abakaliki and a business magnate said that he has spent over N2,000,000 on people across Ebonyi State to help cushion the suffering in the lockdown due to the pandemic in the world.
Briefing the reporter at his Hotel room at the Monablis, Chief Okeh said that the amount was shared to the less privileged, vulnerable and others across Ishielu LGA, Ezza South, Ezza North, Izzi and Ikwo LGAs of the State.
The breakdown of the palliative money showed that 40 persons across the areas involved received N5,000 each, another 40 person also got N3,000 each and 176 others got N10,000 each.
Chief Okeh who is a major stakeholder in Umuhuali community, further told our reporter that he decided to give the alms to others to express his feelings for the citizenry during the hard times, due to the coronavirus in the world.
He assured that he would not have been at rest if he had not contributed his own quarter to complement the efforts of the Governor of the State, Engr. David Umahi, to make ends meet across the state and beyond.
He enjoined the beneficiaries of the gift to keep the rules of the game by observing the rules to curb or avert the scourge in the state.
He further thanked the state Governor and his Exco for their efforts to rid the state of the pandemic and assure that he and his Umuhuali community were solidly behind him and his positive efforts in the state.
Some of the recipients of the palliative money, Mr. James Edeh, Umuhuali, Mr. Ogbu, Nkalagu, Madu Ereke, Mrs. Alo, when interviewed through phone thanked Chief Monday Okeh (Emebe Ifego) for his kindness and for coming to their rescue during the lockdown.
They said that the money came at the right time, since the pandemic; they had no source of income coupled with the economic meltdown.
They prayed God to grant Chief Monday Okeh and his family long life, prosperity and good health and to replenish him many folds, adding that he has been a source of succour to the people around him, especially on areas of youth empowerment, help to the less privileged and vulnerable and even well to do friends, irrespective of one’s lineage.
They further thanked him for his urgent intervention during the 20th May 2020 crisis in Umuhuali and spent a lot to calm the situation, adding that he was the only stakeholder from the community on that day and ensured that youths did not go higher in their anger which would have resulted in further attacks in the community.
They noted that he followed the situation the following days until the situation was completely calmed and the two towns re-united.
They enjoined other stakeholders and well to do members of the society to emulate the kind gesture of Chief Monday Okeh either in cash or materials / food to alleviate them from the hard times of the pandemic.
Chief Monday Okeh in his closing remarks enjoined all, especially the Ishielu people to always support the policies and programmes of the Ebonyi State government to transform the state to an enviable height and for more dividends of democracy across the citizenry both at home and in cities across the country and abroad, adding that the Governor is a “great light after a great Darkness”.
