Afikpo Community at War With Former Commissioner

 

… Accuses Him of Murder, Embezzlement

People of Amankwo village in Nkpohoro community, Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State are at war with one of their sons and a former commissioner for Border Peace and Conflict Resolution, Chief Donatus Ezeogo Ajah.
The Amankwo community in their petitions to Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State and Human Rights Guide Association (HRGA), accused Aja of masterminding the killing of one Azubike Inya from the same village.
They also accused him of embezzling the community/s funds entrusted into his hands as the Treasurer of the Community Association.
According to the community, he influences their reports to the police, violates court order and prevents the police from doing proper investigation on matters reported against him”.
Aja was said to have been terrorizing and intimidating his people since 2012 using his boys and every other means at his disposal.
They lamented that Ezi Ukwu village has suffered his cruel treatment in a larger decree as Ajah was alleged to have continued organizing his boys to massacre innocent people from the area.
The former commissioner was further accused of human rights abuses, incessant intimidation among other things.
They prayed the Commissioner of Police to passionately look into the issues contained in the petition and save them from further intimidations, abuses and killings.
The petition made available to journalists in Abakaliki, were signed by Joel Eze Obila, Titus Nwachi Obila, Collins Arua, Christopher Oko Abagha, Michael Isu Ohuche, Pastor Emmanuel Nwachukwu, Engr. Emmanuel Oko Obila, Joseph Ekuma, Eluu Egwu Oko and Francis Elu Oko.
It reads, “Sir, the killing, intimidation and violation of the fundamental human rights of the people of Amankwo in Nkpoghoro community has not stopped as indigenes are left to their heels as Chief Donatus Ezeogo Ajah has continued to organize his boys to cause an act of massacre of the innocent people of Amankwo and precisely Ezi Ukwu kindred of Amankwo.”
“He, Chief Donatus Ezeogo Ajah has vowed that he must use his weight and position to suppress our people to the mud.”
“This, he has shown, when he always influence our reports to the Police; Violates court order and refusing the Police to do proper investigation on the matter reported against him”.
“Ezi Ukwu Ewa family decided to sell some portions of her Community land to enable us generate fund to embark on building project for the community with Samuel Arua Uche as the Chairman of the land sale committee as was inaugurated by the Association.”
“The proceeds from the sale were handed over to Chief Donatus Ezeogo Ajah as the Treasurer to the Community Association, as the Association had no Bank Account.”
“Chief Donatus Ezeogo Ajah mismanaged these funds that were handed to him as the Treasurer to the Community Association and has refused to give proper account of the money to the entire Community.”
In his reaction to the copy of petition submitted to them,, the zonal office of the Human Rights Guide Association wrote to the Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police.
The letter was signed by the South-East States Coordinator of Human Rights Guide Association (HRGA), Comr. Idam Emma Prince, the Secretary, Comr. Peter Agu and the PRO, Tunde Oyetunji.
HRGA charged the Commissioner of Police to do proper investigation into the issues raised by inviting Aja to explain why he was taking laws into his hands.
They appealed to the Commissioner of Police to do all within their power to ensure that those who killed the said Inya Azubuike, faced the full wrath of the law.
When contacted, Mr. Donatus Ajah, described the allegations as hand work of his enemies.
“It is the handwork of mischief makers, the people that are accusing me want to destroy my personality. I am not a youth I was not even there when it happened; the only thing is that I am from the place. I will call you back ok”. He ended.
He however did not call back as at the time of filling this report.
