As a way to adequately secure and acclimatize his areas of security jurisdiction and the need for an interface with relevant stakeholders at the grassroots, the new Commissioner of Police , Ebonyi State Command, CP Philip S. Maku has commenced familiarisation visits to Area Commands and other formations in the State.
The tour which commenced on Tuesday, 7th July 2020 saw the CP visiting Afikpo as his first port of call.
Receiving the new CP at the Conference Hall of the Area Command, the Caretaker Chairman of Afikpo North Local Government Area, who doubles as ALGON Chairman, Ebonyi State, Hon. (Mrs) Amuche Otunta Godwin congratulated him on his deployment to the state and expressed joy that the council area, which she presides was the first to receive him on his assumption of duty in the State.
She also described the commissioner as a versatile cop who will undoubtedly bring his wealth of experience to bear on effective policing of Ebonyi State.
She stated that the State Governor, His Excellency, Engr. David Umahi has created the enabling environment for the police and other sister security agencies in the state to discharge their duties with optimum results, imploring the new top Cop to avail himself, and others of this wonderful opportunity.
The caretaker chairman also assured the CP of her administration’s determination to sustain the existing synergy between the council and the police with a view to making Afikpo North Local Government Area security responsive through efficient intelligence gathering methodology and essentially, proactiveness.
Interacting with the stakeholders of Afikpo Area Command, the Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police, CP Philip S Maku stated that he was happy to be at the Command on his familiarization tour and called on the stakeholders to join hands with them in the fight against crimes, pointing out that meaningful developments could only thrive in a crime free society.
He disclosed that the State Command under his watch will not relent in fighting criminality to a standstill and proceeded to read the riot act to criminal elements for them to repent or be decisively dealt with as there will be no hiding place for them in the State.
The CP equally enjoined the people to always volunteer useful information to the Police to enable them handle crime and other security threats in any part of the state effectively.
In a welcome address, the Area Commander of the Nigerian Police Force, Afikpo Area Command, ACP Shuaibu Audu registered his immeasurable appreciation on the visit of the CP and disclosed that the Command is composed of two Local Government Areas which are Afikpo North and Afikpo South.
He pledged to the CP, the support and loyalty of the Area Command and their commitment to their duties with renewed zeal.
In a goodwill message, the Rector of Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic, Unwana, Venerable (Dr.) Ogbonnia Ibe – Enwo (JP) commended the CP for embarking on the familiarization tour as a way of getting himself acquainted with developments in areas under his command and assured him of the cooperation of stakeholders, particularly the polytechnic community for efficient policing of the domain.
On their own part, the Chairman of Ebonyi South Traditional Rulers Council and the Owuu 12 of Ebunwana Edda, HRH Ezeogo Azu Enya and the Chairman of Essa Ehugbo Traditional Council of Elders, Ichie Christopher Abagha Egwu pledged the readiness of the Traditional Rulers Council and Essa Traditional Council of Elders respectively to take proactive measures that will assist the Police discharge their duties with minimal hitches.
In a vote of thanks, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Afikpo Division, CSP Livinus Nwenyim, PhD appreciated the Commissioner of Police for his timely visit and assured him of the loyalty of the Officers and Men under him for the good of the citizens in particular and Ebonyi State in general.
The Caretaker Chairman of Afikpo North Local Government Area, Hon Amuche Otunta Godwin was ably represented at the event by the Coordinator of Afikpo North East Development Centre, Hon. Innocent Inya Eluu.
