An expectant mother Jane Ekpe aged 32 has been reportedly kicked to death by one Florence Ugwu aged 34 at Okwo Ngbo market in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Jane who was about 6 months pregnant died in the hospital where she was rushed to after a fight with the said 34 years old Florence.
It was gathered that the two women engaged in an argument in Okwo market on 11th July, 2020 at about 1pm during which Florence kicked her on her stomach with leg and she started bleeding, she was rushed to hospital where she was delivered of the premature baby before she died.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Ebonyi State command, DSP Loveth Odah confirmed the report and said police is investigating the matter.
She said CP Philip Sule Maku has ordered full investigation into the matter adding that the matter should be transferred from the Ohaukwu Division as it is beyond the division.
Odah who condemned the act said the culprit will be arraigned in the court after investigation.
She said, “One Chief Barthomew Ekpe regent of Umuezeoka Ngbo reported at Ohaukwu Division that on 11th July, 2020 by 1 pm while they were at Okwo market his daughter Jane Ekpe aged 32 who was about 6 months pregnant was kicked on her stomach by one Florence Ugwu aged 34 over an undisclosed argument.
“He stated that that his daughter started bleeding profusely and was rushed to hospital where she was delivered of the premature baby and she gave up the ghost.
Odah who was shocked over the death of the woman said, “Can you see how unfortunate this incident could be? She said.
“The DPO quickly mobilized his men to the place and recovered the corpse and deposited the remains at Comprehensive hospital Ngbo. The suspect was immediately arrested and detained in their station, preliminary investigation is ongoing but the case is beyond their division. The Commissioner of police has ordered full scale investigation and the perpetrator will be charged to court after investigation.”
She warned people against loosing their anger especially in this period of pandemic which everyone is struggling to survive.
“But even if is not pregnancy, you don’t need to hit anybody, even if she’s not pregnant because you don’t know the health status of such person”.
