Abakaliki Council Boss Reunites Warring Community

The Caretaker Chairman, Abakaliki Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Hon. Ben Nwovu has intervened by re-uniting the two factional villagers of Obegu Azuiyiokwu in Izzi Unuphu community on Tuesday 21st July, 2020

Recall that the two groups had on Friday 17th July began an uproar over the village headship, which according to them had resulted in the damage to houses, properties and infliction of injuries to the supporters of Deacon Sam Uguru, the incumbent village Head and Mr. Sunday Edigbo, the embattled faction.

Citizens’ Advocate gathered that the two factions had expressed in different media their reasons for the fracas, but the Abakaliki Council boss with other stakeholders in the area reunited the battling villagers and also retained Deacon Sam Uguru as the Obegu Azuiyiokwo substantial village head while his rival was urged to allow the rule to stand and everyone to sheath his sword.

However, for peace to reign, the peace committee Chairman, Hon. Ben Nwovu charged Deacon Uguru to replace the destroyed properties in the village within two weeks.

The Caretaker Chairman also visited scenes of the incident to ascertain the level of destruction done in the area and charged the villagers to remain law abiding as they would re-convey on 5th August, 2020 for the final resolution.

Nwovu hinted that, “As far as I am concerned, the security of this area is my utmost priority. I can’t be party to this kind of crisis. But I always say that anybody sponsoring crisis in any part of Izzi land remains condemnable. Crisis is the instrument used by Satan and its agents, please, don’t partner with them. I urge you to be one and work together for the sake of peace.”

Interacting with newsmen, the member representing Abakaliki North Constituency, Rt. Hon. Franca Okpo, Abakaliki Development Centre Coordinator, Mr. Ekene Edeh and many others, advised the people to be peaceful with one another and they should shun what would trigger crisis in the village.

In their separate interviews, the leaders of the two groups promised to abide by the decision of the local government Chairman, assuring that they would maintain orderliness to ensure that the ugly incident did not repeat again in the area.
