Ebonyi Govt Donates Automated RNA/DNA Extraction Machine to FETHA

The Ebonyi State Government through the State Ministry of Health has donated an automated RNA/DNA extraction machine to the Alex Ekweme Federal University Teaching Hospital’s virology centre Abakaliki for testing of Covid-19.

Performing the presentation, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Daniel Umezuruike explained that the procurement and presentation of the equipment was to help overcome the hurdles associated with the manual extraction of the genes in the laboratory as well as remove human errors.

He said that Covid- 19 and other diseases like Lassa fever have to undergo diligent tests saying that the equipment is necessary for the upgrading of services, quality assurance and speedy dispensation of healthcare services at the centre.

After receiving the equipment on behalf of the centre, the Chief Medical Director of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital Abakaliki, Dr. Emeka Ogah thanked the state government under the leadership of His Excellency, Engr. David Umahi whom he described as God-sent as he does not play with issues concerning the health status of Ebonyians including the recent outbreak of Covid-19 as feeding, care and treatment of the patients have been free of charge in the state.

He said that the presence of a well equipped functional virology centre in the state has made the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to approve Ebonyi State as one of the Centres to be undertaking Covid-19 tests for people that want to travel abroad.

He further assured that the equipment will make the staff to be more committed to their duties as well as help greatly to enhance their result tests.
