Lorry Crushes Pregnant Mother, Son, 17 to Death

The entire Nwambam Agu’s family was thrown into sorrow and mourning when a pregnant mother identified as Mrs. Ifeoma Joe Nwovuede and her seventeen-year-old son, native of Ndiechi village in Igbeagu autonomous community on Tuesday 28 July, 2020 were crushed to death beyond recognition.

The incident took place on Tuesday evening at Ndubia Igbeagu, Izzi Local Government Area, Ebonyi State along the Nwezenyi-Ogoja highway.

Citizens’ Advocate gathered that the accident victims were in a popular Nwaswa Ndubia market where she sells crayfish before they met their untimely death.

It was learnt that they were standing some distance away from the market after buying some food stuff with her 17-year-old son who came to the market with bicycle.

According to an eyewitness who did not want her name on print, said she was driving along the busy Ogoja highway when the deceased pregnant mother who was standing some distance away from the pedestrian tying sack filled with some items.

She said, “While the woman bent down tying her sack and the son waits for the mother, a lorry from Abakaliki on a high speed diverted from the suppose track, jumped a bump on the road and fell off landing on the pregnant woman and her son.”

“At that point, the pregnant woman and her son were crushed beyond recognition while the Driver was rescued and rushed to the nearest St. Vincent hospital for treatment.”

Speaking with the village Head, Chief Ogbuewu Chijioke described the incident as heartbreaking, noting that the entire members of the village were shocked when the news was announced.

He counseled the family to take solace in the Lord, praying that God will give the family the fortitude to bear the loss.

Meanwhile, effort to speak with the bereaved husband proved abortive as at the time of filing the report.
