Man Remanded For Death Of New Convert During Cult Initiation

One Nwali Kingsley of Ekeugwu Azuinyaba of Ishielu Local Government Area in Ebonyi state is now remanded at Abakaliki Federal Correctional Centre for causing the death of one of their newest cult converts during initiation processes.

In the suit numbered MAB/374c/ 2020, the defendant who allegedly made confessional statements to the police was said to have caused death of the new convert alongside others now at large and threw his remains into Ebonyi river.

Our Correspondent gathered that the gang said to be of Ayes confraternity allegedly had their initiation processes on the 10th July, 2020 at Ekeugwu Azuinyaba Secondary school premises in the area during which one of new converts, Nwafor  Johnson died and Chigbo Ugbala was given grievous body injuries having been flogged mercilessly with machetes.

The Police prosecutor, Inspector Sebastine Alumona insisted that the 32 years old suspect committed offences punishable under sections 516A (a), 319 (1), 335 of criminal code cap 33 volume 1 laws of Ebonyi state of Nigeria, 2009 and offence contrary to 3(1) (3), 4(1) punishable under section 5 of Ebonyi state law prohibiting secret cult and carrying of offensive weapons in Ebonyi state cap 12 volume 1 laws of Ebonyi state of Nigeria 2009.

On her part, the trial Chief Magistrate, Nnenna Onuoha could not say much since the matter is beyond jurisdiction of a magistrate court, hence, she ordered remand of the suspect at Abakaliki federal Correctional centre and adjourned the matter to a later date for report of compliance.

The Magistrate instructed the police to forward the case file ,all the documents and evidences about the matter to Department of public prosecution (DPP) for further prosecution
