The leadership of Ebonyi state building material dealers including tiles, aluminum, marble and Welders were on Monday 3rd August 2020 agreed to relocate to the newly constructed site located at Amegu community in Abakaliki Local Government Area of the state unfailingly on the 31st August, 2020.
This was the outcome of the meeting with their leaders and top government officials at cabinet office Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital.
Addressing journalists shortly after the meeting, the Chairman of Building Materials Association Abakaliki, Mr. Ifeanyi Nwudele stated that they have resolved to relocate to the new site on the 31st of August 2020, noting that they would not wait for government to drive them away but rather, have decided to packed into the new site as law abiding citizens of the state.
The Chairman said, the Association appealed to the state government to give them a marching order to relocate to the area at the scheduled date for the interest and welfare of the people having done much in the site.
He appreciated the state Governor, Engr. David Umahi for his love and kindness to them and called on his members to be ready for the movement on the scheduled day.
Responding, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kenneth Ugbala thanked the people for taking a bold step, saying that there would be no going back in the movement.
According to him, “We are going to write a joint memo for Governor to approve it and that will be a recommendation.”
“I encouraged the traders of Building Materials, aluminum market, tile dealers and Welders Association Ebonyi State chapter to increase the base of work in that site, we will be coming for supervision and any site that is not taking the work very serious, we will revoke the ownership and give it to those who are able and willing to buid”, he said.
He added that the state Governor, Engr. David Umahi had revealed that he would make it the best regional market in the whole South East zone of the country.
The SSG noted that the government in no distance time would make provisions of motor park, solar light, accessible road, water and fence for security purposes while advising them to speed up their movement to achieve the set objectives.
In his reactions, the Caretaker Chairman, Abakaliki Local Government Area, Hon Ben Nwovu commended the people for their unanimous agreement to pack in to the new site by the end of August without waiting for government to chase them away and assured them provision of adequate security to safeguard lives and properties in the area.
Meanwhile, the special assistant to Ebonyi state Governor on Industrial cluster, Ebonyi North zone who is also the Chairman Committee of the newly constructed Building Materials, Hon. Peter Nwogbaga hinted that the relocation of the market remains sacrosanct on the slated day and prayed God to grant them a successful movement.
