Foiled Abakaliki Bullion Van Robbery: Police Arrest 5 Suspects, Serving Soldier

Few days after the attack on a Bullion van at Ezzamgbo junction of Abakaliki suburb, Ebonyi State last week Wednesday by armed robbers which led to the death of 4 police officers and a roadside welder, leaving others injured, the suspected armed robbers have been apprehended.
It was gathered that IRT Detectives with technical Intelligence Support from TIU engaged on serious manhunt which led to the arrest of one Alfred Robinson ‘M’ 45 years, Ijaw by tribe and a native of Gelegele town in Ovia North LGA, Edo State on 1st August, 2020 in Asaba Delta state.
It was also gathered that the team subsequently recovered some items including Toyota 4 Runner Jeep with number plate AAA 561 FV Nassarawa State, snatched alongside others for the purpose of the operation.
On interrogation, the alleged criminals were said to have made useful confession that led to the apprehension of some other culprits and some weapons recovered are, 1 PMG riffle with 153 rounds of lives ammunitions, 5 AK 47 with 1402 rounds of lives ammunitions, 1 K2 riffles with loaded magazines, and 51 AK47 magazines, other dangerous weapons and charms.
It was learnt that during intensive follow up that six more gang members were arrested by IRT Detectives within 24hrs who among them were serving and dismissed soldiers.

The gang members arrested gave their names as Sunday Soyemu (a.k.a Sunny) ‘M’, 46 years, an Ijaw by tribe and a native of Alegnene in Ekeremor LGA, Bayelsa State, SGT Ayeni Samuel ‘M’ 43 years, a serving soldier currently attached to Command Day Secondary School, Nigeria Army Cantonment, Ikeja, Lagos and a native of Ilesha town, Ilesha South LGA, Osun State.
Others are, Emeka Harrison ‘M’ 33years, a dismissed soldier who until his ordeal was attached to 7 division Garrison, Maiduguri, Borno State and a native of Nsukka in Nsukka East LGA, Enugu State who was dismissed in the year 2015, Emeka Iloh ‘M’ 37-year-old and sponsor, a native Igwachi Community, Orji River LGA, Enugu State and a resident of FH Estate, Kubwa FCT.
Also among them are, Mr. Abuchi Elijah (a.k.a Chime D Mosquito) ‘M’-27-years who’s an informant to the Abakaliki/Awka recharge card robbery, who is a native of Isialangwa in Isialangwa LGA of Abia State, resident of Bonsac area, Asaba, Delta State and Ibanifiroi Ekiene,’M’, 38 years, an Ijaw and native of Tombia Community in Dedema LGA, River State.
However, all the suspects upon interrogation allegedly confessed to the Bullion Van Robbery in Ebonyi State where four policemen were killed with many other armed robberies/Kidnappings operations across the South East and South South region.
The suspects were also alleged to have confessed that four out of the rifles recovered belongs to the Policemen they killed during the foiled Bullion van robbery in Ebonyi State.
Suspects are assisting police with investigations to arrest their remaining gang members.
Contacted, the police public relations officer Ebonyi Command DSP Loveth Odah declined comment on the arrest.
She directed Citizens’ Advocate to contact the force public relations officer for reaction pointing that the arrest was not made in her jurisdiction.
