…Throw His Corpse In Burning House

Unidentified hoodlums have allegedly invaded Fulani settlement in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State killing one Mahmuda Shehu, a Fulani herder and threw his corpse into a burning house.
The incident which took place around 2pm on 25th July at army land bordered by Okpuitumo/ Onicha village in Amagu, Abakaliki Local Government Area of the State, however caused pandemonium in the community as youths of the community on getting the information mobilized against the invaders but couldn’t get them.
The suspects also gave deep matchet cuts to a passerby who saw them while fleeing after causing the mayhem.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, DSP Loveth Odah when contacted confirmed the report and said police is investigating the murder.
She explained that the unidentified hoodlums invaded the settlement and set ablaze all their huts and properties worth millions of naira burnt down.
“On 25th July, at about 3:40 pm, the caretaker chairman of Abakaliki Local Government Area, Ben. Nwovu in company of Emmanuel Uguru Commissioner in Ebonyi State, Coordinator of Abakaliki development center, came to the station and reported that suspected hoodlums conspired with another now at Large, invaded the Fulani camp situated on Nigeria army land bordered by Okpuitumo/ Onicha village all in Amagu.”
“The hoodlums invaded the Fulani settlement, set ablaze their dwelling huts and one person was burnt in the fire. According to the person narrating, Mahmuda Shehu dead body was found on the scene.”
“The action of the invaders caused pandemonium among the natives. The youths of Amagu went after the invaders and in the process they found a man with deep cut who was also attacked by the hoodlums.”
“Shehu was matcheted by the invaders and thrown into the fire. He was evacuated, taken to hospital where doctor confirmed him dead. His corpse was released on request by the family and he was buried according to Islamic rite.”
Fulani leaders were contacted including Alhaji Idiris, and Belo Sule.
“Commissioner of police who led police team to the area, urged the people to adopt alternate dispute resolution. He swore that criminals cannot survive in their activities in Ebonyi.”
“The Commissioner of Police has also ordered full scale investigation into the matter and vow to bring to book the perpetrators. He appealed to the villagers not to relent to give the police information that will lead to the arrest of the perpetrators”. She said.
