In a bid to give livestock farmers optimal support outside financial assistance, Anchor Borrowers Value Chain Programme through the office, Ebonyi State Deputy Chief of Staff has collaborated with members of AMO Farm Sieberer Hatchery Company for easy and fast marketing of production.
This was made known on Thursday 6th August 2020 in a joint meeting comprising the government, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), NIRSAL officials and AMO Company in Abakaliki.
Addressing the people, Deputy Chief of Staff, Chief Okechukwu Nwakpu said that the essence of the gathering was to harness the government policy through which every individual would be engaged in livestock farming as an alternative measure concerning the impending Zero-Oil economy.
Chief Nwakpu said, “It was after the government had gained the support of CBN and NIRSAL officials who agreed to give loan to the farmers that my office considered it wise to engage off-takers who will be buying the commodities when they are produced.
“This is why AMO group, being the richest farm company in animal production was engaged to anchor with our farmers.”
Chief Nwakpu further disclosed that once the government agenda concerning livestock farming is properly utilized, it would disabuse the minds of many people who believe that without politics or civil service, one would not survive or become rich as their fortune would change within the first 6 weeks of production.
“The government has also found out that our youths need to be encouraged, so that they can obtain loan and start their individual farming.
“I believe that by the virtue of this programme, as soon as they produce either twice or more, the farmers will not have any reason to be carrying applications about in search of job or vying for political positions because they will be comfortable with the entrepreneurship” he said.
The Head, Business Intelligence of AMO Farm, Mr. Yunusa Alaba, in his speech disclosed their readiness to provide the farmers with all the necessary supports which include supplies of healthy chicks, provision of drugs and most importantly buying the chickens from the farmers upon maturity at a profitable rate.
“We are poised to engage the government on public private partnership (PPP) where all the farmers who are being introduced to us will be anchored” he said.
Meanwhile, Special Assistant to the governor on Livestock production, Hon Barrister Bede Johnson Nwali, during their sensitization visit at Ezilo, Headquarters of Ishielu LGA, told us that the intensity of the programme was prompted by the need to boost economic growth of the State through Agricultural sector.
He further said that the significant of the tour was to assess each person’s farm, make profile and thereby prepare the farmers so that they could benefit from the programme.
Chief Edwin Okah, Special Assistant to the governor on Industrial Cluster, Ebonyi Central Zone and Desk Officer on Piggery Project expressed delight over the large number of people whose farms were assessed.
He added that during the inspection, the council area was grouped into three, stating that the loan is meant for genuine farmers rather than political farmers.
