A suspected ritualist who feigned as mentally deranged beggar with name, Arinzechukwu Nwome, a native of Imeabali, Edda Autonomous Community, Abakaliki LGA on Wednesday 14th April, 2021 escaped death by whiskers.
The suspected ritualist who was said to be begging within Ekeaba Police Station, on the fateful morning approached a helper who
gave him ten (N10) naira note.
According to the victim who did not want his name on print, consequently, he received phone call some minutes after from his Pastor
that the man he gave money was not a beggar but a ritualist.
The victim, quickly, embarked on search party and on sighting the beggar, demanded his money back but the mentally deranged Arinzechukwu insisted that the money was no longer with him which prompted him to raise alarm.
However, the attention of the passers-by was drawn including men of Nigeria Police Force Ekeaba Police Station who whisked him away to their station to save him from being lynched by aggrieved mob who claimed to have been giving him money.

erved that embattled Arinzechukwu when rattled by the behaviour of the mob began to make some confessions when residents of the area were questioning him, revealing that he was not a ritualist but said that he has been mad, henc
e, has no helper, rather resorts to begging to earn a living.
“I’m a child of God and have been in this situation for long because I have no helper. My mother is poor and I don’t have any money, it was hunger that made me to beg.
“I have tied seven people from the money I received from them but I am not a ritualist. I became mad when I picked a mirror inside the bush.
When asked what he presently does with the mirror, he said “I speak to the mirror whenever I need help and I told the mirror that if it makes me rich that I will worship it.
The victim who was shocked with Mr. Arinzechukwu’s statement insisted to get his money back but the beggar after long argument brought out the money and handed over to him.
Meanwhile, our reporter as at the time of filing this report observed that the mentally deranged Arinzechukwu despite effort to exonerate himself could not established a clear picture of defence as he insisted that he was not a ritualist but accepted to be mad.
