Suspected Armed Robbers attack Commercial Bank At Onueke

There was pandemonium around 3:30 PM at Onueke, Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State on Tuesday afternoon when armed robbers invaded the area, raided the community, and a commercial bank in the area.

It was gathered that the heavily armed men came on 7 motorcycles and two vehicles with live magazines and started the attack from the airport site where they shot sporadically at the runway area of the airport, before setting a jeep packed in a nearby compound ablaze.

At the end, they took off to one of the new generation banks at Onueke for robbery before going into the Onueke Park.

It was alleged that two security personnel were shot during the incident.

The gunmen, it was further gathered broke into an SUV car belonging to one of the commissioners in the state and took away his laptop computer, architectural plan documents, and money. 

They shot sporadically into the air and took over the site for some time before leaving.

A source who pleaded for anonymity told Citizens’ Advocate that the suspected armed robbers entered the popular Onueke Park after their operations at the bank where they interfaced with security men. 

“I was in an event when one of my staff called me and said she could not come out that robbers are robbing in the bank close to our office.

“When I left the programme, I was in and went to the park. The armed robbers came there and policemen also arrived at the park as if they had information of what was happening.

“They engaged them in gun duel and later left.

“As I’m talking to you, the police did not arrest anybody as the town is now deserted over the incident.

It was after the police left that I came out from my hiding place and left the park”.

Although there were speculations that the armed men had gone to rob a native doctor who sold a large landmass recently but they did not succeed in getting the cash or killing the native doctor as the gunshot reportedly could not penetrate his body.

But when contacted on phone, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Loveth Odah only said, “the CP has mobilized his men to that place”.

The police PRO, could not give details on the death of the two security personnel and the major target in the operation.
