A 28-year-old mother, Mrs. Faith Ude-Oko has been arrested by the police in Ebonyi State for using a plank to hit and kill her 3 years old stepson.
The incident reportedly took place at Ugwuegu community in Afikpo North Local Government Area of the state.
The woman, Mrs. Faith Ude-Oko was said to have confessed to the crime and said her anger was that the husband got married to the second wife, Maria, who gave birth to the boy.
That since Maria came into her marriage with the husband Anthony Ukpani her life has become a misery as she no longer enjoys her husband’s love and care.
The suspect accused the co-wife of intruding into her marriage with Anthony.
But Mr. Anthony however, said he married two of them legally. That the way and manner he married Faith was the way he married Maria but Maria was fortunate to have gotten pregnant earlier before Faith who has a two-year-old female child.
He said that two of them are his wives and he has been taking care of them together.
Loveth Odah, Police Public Relations Officer in the state confirmed the report and said the suspect will be arraigned in court after proper investigation.
“Yes, Mrs. Faith Ude Oko, 28th year’s old, allegedly used a plank to hit a boy of 3 years who is reported to be her co-wife’s son. The woman confessed to the crime and said the innocent child did not commit any offence that the anger which she descended on the boy was caused by his mother, Mrs. Oko Maria Blessing.
She said, “she Faith” is legally married to the husband before she discovered that Maria was having extra-marital affair with the husband, Oko who got her pregnant and the three years old boy was the proceed of the illegal relationship.
That since the woman came into the life of her husband, Anthony Ukpani, 35 years old, her own life and marriage have been a nightmare and that the man neither takes care of her or her co-wife”.
The command commissioner of police, CP Aliyu Garba, frowned at the issue, pointing out that nothing would have made a mother kill a stepson because of anger and urged Ebonyi people to learn how to use dialogue to resolve problems.
“The plank was recovered; Cp advised Ebonyi people to always approach alternative dispute resolution instead of taking laws into their hands.
The suspect has been arrested and she confessed to the crime as soon as investigation is concluded, the matter will be charged to court “, Odah said.
