“Ebonyi State is not only concentrating on conventional education but has expanded the horizon of education to include vocational education that is, expanding opportunities to identify and harness talent.”
The State Hon. Commissioner for Education, Dr. Onyebuchi Chima stated this in a zoom meeting organized by Ebonyi Ambassador Movement (EBAM) anchored by the president of the movement, Ambassador Timothy Nwachukwu with the theme: “Education a Catalyst for Actualizing the Ebonyi of Our Dream”.
Dr. Onyrbuchi Chima who opined that education is key to success not success itself, pointed out that it is what one does with education he acquired that matters.
He encouraged youths to start rendering voluntary services in the areas that manpower is needed.
He said that government couldn’t employ because the state wage bill remains constant where as pension is increasing as a result of corrupt practices in the system which the state government is making frantic effort to correct.
The Commissioner said that the Governor David Nweze Umahi is leaving no stone unturned to ensuring that Ebonyi State has the highest number of school enrolment considering the fact that only in Ebonyi State that BESDA programme; better education for all, supported by World Bank, is going on in the whole of South East.
He maintained that the progarmme helped the state Government to register both people that had never been registered in school and those that were in school but dropped out as a result of economic challenges.
Dr. Chima maintained that for those who may not be good in conventional education, Governor Umahi has established vocational education, created Ministry of Business Development and the Ministry of Human Capital Development because one must be educated enough to make a meaningful contribution towards the development of Ebonyi State.
He further charged students who always think of what people can do for them, not what they can do for themselves, to have a rethink and scout for opportunities for full scholarship funding, pointing out that one may fail the first time but shouldn’t give up.
The Ebonyi State education boss encouraged youths to start a voluntary service scheme to support education in Ebonyi State, especially now that the state lacks teachers in various schools.
Disclosing that Ebonyi State is currently responding to END#SARS communiqué, Dr. Chima who expressed excitement that Ebonyians are very enterprising, urged them to study hard and make their education to be relevant because a certificate cannot offer a job but what one can demonstrate.
He said that Nigeria is moving forward out of certificate based education, urging youths to revolutionalize education values for meaningful development and belong to the league of individuals that believe in themselves and create the ability to survive instinct.
Speaking in the zoom meeting, an expert medical practitioner in London, UK and President of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Dr. Nnanna Igwe commended the Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. David Nweze Umahi for his wisdom and strategic partnership he employed in developing the landscape of education in the state.
Dr. Igwe who said that Ebonyi State can be greater and prosper with education, enjoined Ebonyians in diaspora to support what the governor is doing in education to change the narration that Ebonyi State is the most educationally disadvantaged state in Nigeria.
He also commended the effort of Ebonyi Ambassador Movement for organizing a unique, innovative and exemplary programme and called on well meaning Ebonyians to join the education developmental trend to develop the state.
