…Says Ebonyi Governor

The governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. David Nweze Umahi has described the Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) South East Chapter, Very Rev. Fr. (Dr.) Abraham Chukwuma Nwali as an asset with inestimable value at St. Paul Catholic Church Onuebonyi in Abakaliki.
It was gather that the servant of God; Fr. Nwali is currently occupying the following positions: The Parish Priest of St. Paul Catholic Church, Onuebonyi Abakaliki, Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), South East Geo-political zone, Senior Special Assistant to Ebonyi State governor on Welfare and Religious Matters, Founder of Ezeonu Memorial Scholarship Foundation for Indigent African Students, Chairman, David Umahi Federal Teaching Hospital, Provost, David Umahi Federal University of Medical Sciences and Pro Chancellor of Ebonyi State University (EBSU).
Governor Umahi represented by his deputy, Barrister Eric Kelechi Igwe Ph.D during the annual thanksgiving of St Paul Parish, said that the priest whom according to him was adopted by the political class had made a huge sacrifice to the service of the state and expressed gratitude as the Fr Nwali had not soiled his robe in any form.
“The priest is an exportable material both within and outside Nigeria, we also enjoin other priests to emulate the role which he had played in governance by discovering where there is a yawning gap, so that we can fill it in time to come.
“ the Annual Harvest and Thanksgiving of Fr. (Dr.) Abraham Nwali is what every government official cherishes and always have the desire to attend each time that he invites, we usually honour his invitation to make it known to the church of God that it is good to cultivate the attitude of gratitude” he said.
The governor further disclosed that it has become a tradition on the part of the government to always identify with Fr. Nwali during his annual thanksgiving since 2015 till date and thereby urged the faithful to be grateful at all times.
The Speaker, Ebonyi State House of Assembly and gubernatorial candidate under the platform of All Progressive Congress (APC), Rt. Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, in his remark urged the catholic faithful not to involve themselves in a partisan politics based on the fact that 97% of the candidates across various elective positions are their members.
“I am always pained whenever a leader who ought to encourage us takes up a microphone and begin to criticize others without facts, I believe in the sermon of the day indicating that it takes a lot of sacrifices to be a leader.
“Although I am not afraid of anyone because it has already been written by God that I will be next governor of Ebonyi State and my emergence will be for the benefit of everyone and the unity and progress of the state, thus, no human being born of a woman can say otherwise” he affirmed.
He further thanked the governor for the assistance given to the church so far and applauded Fr. Nwali whom he described as an intelligent and hard working priest over his generosity to the indigent persons.
The host and parish priest, Rev. Fr. Abraham Nwali, thanked both the government and his members over the success already made in the church based on the fact that the premises was in a sorry state when he started but as God would have it, the narrative of the place had changed for good.
“I left my former place for this parish with nothing except my bible and mass box and upon my arrival, I discovered that the place was seeking attention because it only contained one dilapidating building in the whole compound, other facilities as bathrooms had also collapsed.
“Having seen all this, I began to come to work from my house until after six weeks but interestingly after six months, we were able to do the three most difficult jobs and through the help of my foundation I was provided with twenty million naira and before the end of the first nine months, we had spent 65 million naira” he explained.
The priest described himself as a child of providence as before now, he was not anticipating further appointments but suddenly he was appointed as the Provost of EBSU followed by another chance of serving at the capacity of the Provost, David Umahi Federal University of Medical Sciences among others.
Fr. Nwali further commended the government for considering him worthy over the various engagements given to him, thanked Governor Umahi and other government officials for their support and also applauded his parishioners for giving him all the needed support.
